| History | |
| The Villa was built in 1568 by Architect
Pellegrino Pellegrini and was considered one of the finest examples
of architecture and landscaping. Its fame reached far and wide and
in 1615 the Villa, named Garrovo after mountain stream that flows
into the lake, was visited by the Sultan of Morocco with the sole
purpose of seeing for himself the reported splendors. It was the 1873 when a group of ingenious businessmen decided to form a limited company known as the Grand Hotel Villa d'Este and combine into one property the two villas the Cardinal's and the Queen's. |
